Gary Neville addresses Thomas Tuchel's future at Chelsea after form slump

Gary Neville is confident that Thomas Tuchel has "enough credit" to see him through Chelsea's dip in form.

The German has seen his side slip from the top of the table down to third with Manchester City now six points clear of them.

Tuchel won the Champions League back in May and was backed in the summer as Romelu Lukaku returned for a club-record fee.

However, following a promising start, the Blues have won just three of their last eight in the league.

It has seen pressure mount on Tuchel, who will know that managers do not get long at Stamford Bridge such is Roman Abramovich's lack of patience.

Roberto Di Matteo, the only other Chelsea boss to win the European Cup, was sacked just months after the triumph back in 2012.

Antonio Conte was also sacked in recent years despite winning the league and the FA Cup in successive seasons.

Neville though hopes that the German has done enough to avoid any talk of the sack.

He told Sky Sports : "I think he’s got enough credit in the bank.

"I know it’s a club that does things very differently, but I’d hate to think that Thomas Tuchel is under pressure and they’re thinking of making a change, I can’t believe that to be the case.

"I think he’ll be a little bit worried. I think mentally when you try to get a game called off and you’re then told to play it, I can’t think that will help the mindset in that game.

"I know they didn’t have a full bench, and we’ll have to ask later why more young players couldn’t come onto it, but it was a strong Chelsea team."

Tuchel's side had lodged a request with the Premier League to get Sunday's game at Wolves postponed.

It was rejected however and the Blues, minus the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner, dropped more points.

They didn't even name a full bench in the midlands and Tuchel slammed the decision to put the game on.

He said: "It is not safe. We talk about protecting players and a safe environment but it is not safe.

"I would be not surprised if the next test shows up and we have more positives. How should it stop if we sit in the bus and have dinners and just stay together like nothing happened?"

Tuchel has already hinted that Chelsea may struggle to fulfil their Carabao Cup fixture with Brentford this week.
