Gary Millar relishing the challenge after taking up reins at Laurelvale FC

Determined boss Gary Millar insists he is relishing the challenger after becoming Laurelvale Football Club's new first team manager.

Millar takes up the reins of the Mid Ulster Intermediate A club and will be assisted by Robin Carson.

It is hoped the Scotsman can galvanise the club following a difficult first season back up in Intermediate A.

MIllar says he is confident that adding to the talent already housed at the club will help them hit the ground running next season.

"I'm coming in with a fresh slate, every player is getting a fresh start with me as I don't know them personally even though I had reports on the team," he said.

"I will be judging each individual for myself. From what I've seen so far in my limited time talking to the squad there is a genuine desire to work hard and improve on where we have been before and that's the attitude I'm looking for."

Motherwell-born Millar started off his career with Glasgow Rangers before spells with clubs including Motherwell, Gretna and Clyde.

He then across the water and signed for Portadown and also had a loan spell with Lurgan Town.

Millar - who hasn't ruled out playing for Laurelvale in a player/manager capacity - added: "I just can't wait to get started and get going because I genuinely believe we can turn this club around and eventually get them back to challenging for honours."

Meanwhile, Millar has announced his first signing with Nathan Stewart joining from Hanover.

The winger is no stranger to Sid Wright Park after leaving the 'Vale a year ago.

"I'm delighted to be bringing Nathan back to Laurelvale as he will be an integral part of our plans to bring success back to the club," Millar added.

"He is a young, hungry player who has already proved himself at this level but we know he has the ability to kick on to the highest levels in the game. "

Laurelvale hope to hold open trials as he searches to unearth new talent in both the first and second teams.

More details are expected to be released on the cub's social media channels.
