Former Rangers man Andy Halliday has explained the dynamics on the Auchenhowie training pitch as he explains Gary McAllister 's "under-rated" role.
The Hearts midfielder grew up supporting the Ibrox club and left in the summer after his contract expired.
He's got first hand experience of working under Steven Gerrard 's regime, and has watched his old club make an unbeaten start to the season.
And speaking on Superscoreboard the 29-year-old revealed that the Liverpool legend is happy to delegate work among the staff, who all take care of different sides of the game.
Halliday explained: "They’ve all got very specific roles.
"Michael Beale, for example, he’ll take day-to-day training which isn’t too uncommon in football. Walter Smith was supposedly quite similar toward the latter stages of his Rangers managerial career.
"Tom Culshaw has a lot to do with individual stuff, he’ll take all the set pieces as well and individual defending routines.
"Steven Gerrard is very much the disciplinarian, he’s got the aura, he’s got the respect. If anything needs to be clamped down on and dealt with he’ll be the one who does that.
"But Gary McAllister’s role is underrated.
"I’ve said this last year, if the team isn’t in a good place, whether they’ve had a poor result or a poor run of results, he’s the link between the coaching staff and the players to try and perk that morale up.
"See at the same time, when the team is 25 unbeaten, he’s the one who keeps everyone level headed and that it’s a game at a time.
"There’s a bigger achievement to be had, there’s a bigger goal, a bigger pot of gold to be had at the end of the season and he’s the one who mediates all that."
