Gary McAllister frustrated by 'unrecognisable' Rangers as Ibrox assistant gives Borna Barisic injury update

Rangers assistant boss Gary McAllister admits he was left frustrated by a performance that he thought was 'unrecognisable' from the table toppers.

Steven Gerrard's men claimed all three points after a 2-0 win over Ross County but they weren't at their best as they huffed and puffed their way past the Dingwall side.

James Tavernier's eighth goal in as many games put them in front but it took until late on before Brandon Barker got a second to seal the win.

And McAllister admits that it was disappointing showing form his side as they struggled to get into the rhythm of their usual game.

He told RangersTV: "Pleased with the result. Performance-wise after the other night, a wee bit disappointed.

"From early in the game, we weren’t really at it. By that, I mean the intensity out of possession, winning the ball back, but more importantly in possession we were bitty. We didn't create any rhythm.

"We were a wee bit unrecognisable early in the game. There was a reaction after half time. We started the second half well.

"The most important thing is we got the three points.

"We’ve had a good run of results. That’s five victories, five clean sheets here. We can’t complain too much. You’ve got to enjoy winning games but also realising the fact we didn't play as well as want to play. That's something we've got to take away from the game today.

"Our game is based on keeping possession, but Ross County are pushing and pressing. At 1-0, they still think if we make a mistake they have a chance. You’ve got to show a deal of bravery to stick to your laurels and try and get that rhythm and try and cause problems for their backline.

"The second half was a bit better, basically we weren't at it. There's some things during the 90 minutes where you've got to be at it, you want to play nice football, you want to do the tactical things we worked on prior to the game but that doesn't happen if you're not imposing yourself on the game."

Rangers had some injury concerns as Borna Barisic was forced off after a collision with Reigan Charles-Cook while Connor Goldson looked to be hurt late on.

But McAllister cleared up any worries, as he said: "It’s just a blow, it was just below his shinpad. It’s nothing serious. It's some studs mark below his shin pads.

"Connor was feeling a wee bit of cramp, we don’t think that’s a problem either. Everyone has come through okay and now we're hoping everyone goes away on international duty and comes back healthy."
