Gary McAllister calms Rangers fan fears as he hints at strong team to face Alashkert

Gary McAllister is confident Rangers can still field a team to see off Alashkert on Thursday.

The Ibrox club have been rocked by positive Covid-19 tests in their camp ahead of the Europa League play-off second leg and a derby clash with Celtic at the weekend.

Rangers have not confirmed who returned the positive tests, but manager Steven Gerrard, captain James Tavernier, Ryan Kent, Calvin Bassey, Allan McGregor, John McLaughlin did not travel with the rest of the squad to Armenia.

John Lundstram and Kemar Roofe are suspended, while Fashion Sakala is not in the club's Europa League squad.

It means assistant boss McAllister and coach Michael Beale will lead the team, with a number of youngsters from the B-team making the journey.

But McAllister is satisfied the starting side won't be a shock for fans.

He said at the pre-match press conference: "When you see the team tomorrow you will see it can play in most games.

"The team is capable of going and getting the result. My feeling is we can go and score goals."

He continued: "Obviously we are adapting and moving along, we have arrived here now and we are purely focused on the job at hand. We are fully focused on getting the job done here before the focus turns to the weekend.

"We have some youngsters from the B-Team, they have impressed recently and we are confident that all of them can do a job on the pitch. Already it is a great experience for the younger guys, we are very confident in our young players.

"All the presentations and messaging will remain the same, the manager will still speak to the players and of course we have Michael Beale here along with myself. We are in constant contact with Steven (Gerrard)."
