Gary McAllister brands Rangers 'wasteful' as he hails Iani Hagi Livingston rescue mission after Covid nightmare

Gary McAllister reckons Rangers strikers still have more to give after branding the first half display against Livingston "wasteful."

It proved to be a comfortable night for the Ibrox outfit as goals from Kemar Roofe and Alfredo Morelos saw off the Lions.

Rangers have booked a return to Hampden for the first time since December 2019 and a Premier Sports Cup semi-final.

However, McAllister was still calling for more and reckons the early exchanges brought back memories of the disappointing draw with Motherwell on Sunday.

The Rangers assistant had special praise for Ianis Hagi, who returned from his Covid woes at half-time to inspire a much improved second period showing.

McAllister told Premier Sports: "I thought first half we huffed and puffed and we did create a few chances, but speaking to the players at half-time we were a wee bit wasteful in the final third.

"We lacked a wee bit of quality and wee bit of guile, that quality pass and to get that strike on goal.

"The manager made a wee change at half-time and it paid dividends.

'We lacked a wee bit of quality and I thought Ianis brought it

"Credit to him, he has had a tough time recently with Covid, 10 days quarantine, he was only back two or three days ago.

"He looked sharp and brought that we bit of quality we needed.

"We are delighted our two forwards scored tonight. Our two young full backs did very well I thought.

"All in all we are delighted to be in the semi-final.

"Come the end of the game we got what we were looking for, but in the first half it was a repeat of the weekend. We were a wee bit wasteful in the final third.

"Ianis coming back brings that wee bit of quality and it's nice to have the strikers scoring goals."
