Gary Maley's Livingston contract Twitter poll raises close to £2500 for charity

A Twitter poll carried out by Livingston to decide the future of goalkeeper Gary Maley has raised nearly £2400 for charity.

The Premiership club hit the headlines last month when nearly 200,000 votes were cast on the club’s Twitter account asking if the Lions should offer a new contract to their 37-year-old third-choice keeper.

It was all for a good cause, though, and a total of £2395 has been raised for the John O’Byrne Foundation.

Maley himself pledged to donate his first two months’ wages — a figure which was matched by Head of Football Operations, David Martindale.

The Foundation was set up to support children who spend a lot of time in hospital with long term illnesses.

John O’Byrne thanked the club and fans, saying: “The money Davie, Gary and Livingston FC helped raise for my foundation really will go a long way as sadly we’re likely to struggle to raise much this year because of the difficulties face with Covid-19.”
