Gary Lineker, Thomas Muller and other football figures react to James Rodriguez's Everton transfer

Former Everton striker Gary Lineker has just some of the footballing world's biggest stars in sharing their reaction to the club signing James Rodriguez.

The Real Madrid playmaker put pen-to-paper on a two-year deal on Monday, with the Blues having the option of a third year further down the line, for an officially undisclosed fee.

This is the third time that the Colombia international has linked up with Carlo Ancelotti having been signed by the Italian twice already in his career.

Understandably, news of his signing at Goodison Park dominated footballing headlines on Monday evening and sent Evertonians into a frenzy.

And a couple of football's biggest stars took to social media to have their say on the move.

Lineker shared the post from Everton's official account making reference to Rodriguez's World Cup golden boot in 2014, with a tongue-in-cheek nod to himself at the same time.

He said: "A World Cup golden boot winner at @Everton. Been a while since that happened."

Some of Rodriguez's former teammates also took the opportunity to share their thoughts on the move.

Thomas Muller played alongside the Colombia international during his two-year loan spell with Bayern Munich from 2017 onward and was quick to wish the 29-year-old luck on his new journey with the Blues.

He replied to Rodriguez's social media post by simply saying: "Good luck at @Everton, @jamesdrodriguez."

One Real Madrid star also shared his thoughts after Rodriguez's permanent exit from the Bernabeu was confirmed.

Luka Modric took to Twitter to share a picture of himself and his former teammate celebrating a goal during their time together at the club.

His message translates to: "Great player. Good luck panita!"

Rodriguez played 125 games in all competitions for Real Madrid after joining the club in 2014, scoring 37 goals in that time.
