Gary Lineker takes swipe at Arsenal skipper Laurent Koscielny after stunning transfer decision

Gary Lineker has taken a swipe at Laurent Koscielny's leadership credentials after his decision not to travel with the Arsenal squad on their pre-season tour.

The Gunners are due to fly to the USA to start their pre-season campaign but have been rocked by the news that the skipper has refused to travel.

The news is a huge blow for the north London side who are looking to put the wheels in motion ahead of a crucial season for the club.

Arsenal need leaders now more than ever, and taking to social media, Lineker aimed a jibe at the 33-year-old, simply saying: "'That' leadership for you."

His Tweet can be seen below.

The shock decision come after a reports emerged about the Frenchman's future at the club.

Koscielny stunned the club earlier this week by demanding that he be released from the final year of his contract and allowed to return to France.

football.london  understands that the Frenchman, a key part of the Arsenal side since joining in 2010, not only wants to go back to his homeland but has also asked Unai Emery's side to release him from the final year of his contract.

Whilst Arsenal are sympathetic to Koscielny's desire to return home and may have considered selling him they have been left shellshocked and hugely disappointed by his refusal to travel.

In a statement the club said: "We are very disappointed by Laurent’s actions, which are against our clear instructions.

"We hope to resolve this matter and will not be providing any further comment at this time."

Arsenal insist that they will not allow Koscielny to leave for free though it appears inevitable that they will now consider selling the club captain.

Sources close to Koscielny declined to comment on his remarkable decision when contacted by  football.london. Arsenal will confirm their travelling squad shortly but their club captain will not be on the plane.
