Gary Lineker takes aim at VAR after Raheem Sterling's disallowed goal against Chelsea

Match of the Day host Gary Lineker has let rip at VAR after another weekend of controversy in the Premier League.

The most controversial decision came at the Etihad as Manchester City beat Chelsea 2-1 to return to winning ways.

Pep Guardiola's side had a third goal ruled out for offside late on, with Raheem Sterling ruled to be just offside in the build-up.

The former Liverpool man thought he had made the game safe for his side in stoppage time after he poked the ball home.

But the strike was ruled out after VAR judged Sterling to have been offside when the ball was headed forward to him, although replays suggested he may have been level with the Chelsea's defenders.

Sterling took to social media after the game, writing: "Happy to improve my VAR overruled goals record today again. Damn this thing gonna kill me bro #cursed."

And Lineker quickly followed, writing: “Cannot stand what VAR is doing to the game....particularly with these nonsensically tight offside calls that they can’t possibly be sure of one way or the other. Bin it.”

City host Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League on Tuesday, before visiting Newcastle in the Premier League next Saturday.
