Gary Lineker stunned by what Trent Alexander-Arnold did in Liverpool win against Spurs

Liverpool secured top spot in the Premier League after dispatching fellow title rivals Tottenham in midweek, providing a significant boost heading into the festive period.

Roberto Firmino's late goal saw Jurgen Klopp's side move three points clear of Spurs in the running, putting a dent into Jose Mourinho's hopes of dethroning the defending champions.

Despite their significant injury problems in defence, Liverpool rose to the challenge in arguably their most testing game of the season so far.

One particular highlight came from Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is now shouldering additional defensive responsibility with the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez sidelined.

The full-back was pictured playing a deft pass through the legs of Spurs star Son-Heung Min, which caught the attention of Gary Lineker on social media.

Sharing a video from the club's official Twitter page, Lineker issued the simple response of 'that's illegal' to the nutmeg clip.

The Match of the Day host is a big fan of Liverpool's Scouse star.

Back in the summer, Lineker claimed of Alexander-Arnold: "The most talented right back in the world. Almost too good for the position.

Liverpool will be looking to secure top spot for Christmas with a victory against Crystal Palace on Saturday at Selhurst Park.

They then bring the year to a close with Premier League clashes against West Brom and Newcastle United.
