Gary Lineker stands by shamed pal Danny Baker as he relaunches career after racism row

Gary Lineker has publicly backed Danny Baker following racism allegations.

The football pundit is set to make another series of their podcast, Lineker and Baker: Behind Closed Doors, despite recent criticism of the radio DJ.

The podcast's future was in doubt after Baker, 61, was fired from his Radio 5 Live show back in May when he shared a picture of two posh people and a chimp leaving hospital after the birth of the royal baby.

However, a source told The Sun that Lineker has no intention of stopping his work with Baker.

“Gary and Danny’s podcast has been a real hit with fans," the insider said.

"They both feel as though it would be a shame to let it disappear because of Danny’s mistake.

“Not only is Danny Gary’s colleague, he’s also a close friend of his. And so Gary has decided to stand by his pal."

The source added that there are still "discussions" over the contents of the new series, but the pair are looking forward to starting it.

Baker sparked outrage with this Tweet (TWITTER)

This isn't the only project Baker will be working on, as he's also relaunching his career by manning Five Live Saturday's morning show in the new year.

Announcing his return, Baker referred to a game played on his Five Live show about the sauce used on sausage sandwiches and said: “My own stand alone podcast, featuring all the old firm and even the Sausage Sandwich Game, will begin in the new year.

"Emails encouraged, calls taken, subjects bizarre. A twice a week meeting, we can rule the world," he wrote.

The tweet ended with the hashtag “#CandyManReturns” which is a reference to his radio nickname.

Baker’s Saturday morning show ran on 5 Live from 2008 until his dismissal last month.
