Gary Lineker slams 'ridiculous' decision in Liverpool win as summer change needed

Here's your Liverpool morning digest for Sunday, April 11.

Lineker slams 'ridiculous' VAR

Gary Lineker says VAR is getting more ridiculous by the day after Roberto Firmino saw a goal controversially ruled out for offside.

After Liverpool had fallen behind to Aston Villa, Firmino thought he had equalised shortly before half-time when he turned the ball into the net after Andy Robertson's shot had been deflected.

Yet play was brought back by VAR when Diogo Jota was adjudged to have been offside by the narrowest of margins after Trent Alexander-Arnold's lofted pass.

VAR firstly deliberated over whether Aston Villa's Matty Cash had touched the pass into the path of Jota before then deciding the Reds forward's arm had been in an offside position by a matter of millimetres.

Liverpool win shows summer change is needed

Trent Alexander-Arnold scored an injury-time winner as Liverpool came from behind to beat Aston Villa at Anfield.

Mohamed Salah cancelled out Ollie Watkins' opener, before Alexander-Arnold struck in the first minute of stoppage time.

And writing in his match verdict from Anfield, the ECHO's Paul Gorst believes Liverpool's win shows a summer change is needed as a special guest is left with regret.
