Gary Lineker shares 'bonkers' Liverpool stat since Premier League title win

Gary Lineker posted what he called a "bonkers stat" about Liverpool during their win over West Ham at Anfield on Saturday.

The Reds went behind after a goal from Pablo Fornals but fought back with a penalty from Mohamed Salah in the first half and a strike from substitute Diogo Jota just five minutes from time.

It was a hard-fought three points that saw Jurgen Klopp's men move to the head of the Premier League table ahead of Everton before their game with Newcastle on Sunday.

However, despite the win Lineker shared a potentially worrying statistic about the champions.

Blood Red: Jurgen Klopp on mentality of Liverpool squad

Almost immediately after Fornals had put the visitors ahead, former striker and BCC Match of the Day pundit Lineker tweeted to say that no team in the Premier League had conceded more goals than Liverpool since they clinched the title.

He wrote: "Bonkers stat: since the day that Liverpool clinched the title, no team in the Premier league has conceded more goals."

There is no question the Reds need to improve defensively, however, there are so many mitigating factors at play when considering the stat Lineker shared with his 7.7million followers.

Not only did Liverpool manage to claim the domestic top flight crown in the midst of a delayed season during a worldwide pandemic, they have also been without their two most expensive players in history for several games during that time.

Those players being the superstar Alisson in goal and world-class Virgil van Dijk in centre-back, while there have been a number of other injury problems for the Reds to contend with.

And positively, Klopp's men have still found it within themselves to dip deep and grind out wins during all but two of their seven matches in the Premier League this term - hence rising to the top of the table.
