Gary Lineker sends title message to Liverpool after Man City collapse at Wolves

Gary Lineker has become the latest football figure to suggest that the Premier League title race is over after Manchester City's defeat to Wolves .

City - who saw goalkeeper Ederson sent off in the opening stages - were 2-0 up at the start of the second half at Molineux, before a spectacular collapse led to a fifth Premier League loss of the season.

Inspired by winger Adama Traore, the hosts dominated the second half and pulled a goal back when the former Middlesbrough man powered in a low shot off the post.

Traore was then involved in the equaliser as he outmuscled Benjamin Mendy before crossing for Raul Jimenez to tuck home, before Jimenez's flick found Matt Doherty in stoppage time and the Irishman drove home the winner.

The loss leaves City down in third in the table and a massive 14 points behind leaders Liverpool , who also have a game in hand.

The Reds hammered second-place Leicester City 4-0 on Boxing Day, and are now 13 points ahead of Lineker's boyhood team as they plot their route to a first top-flight title since 1990, and a first since the formation of the Premier League in 1992.

But as far as Lineker is concerned, that title is now as good as won following City's spectacular collapse in the match that marked the halway point of their season.

Taking to Twitter just after the final whistle blew at Molineux, Lineker simply wrote: "Congratulations @LFC on winning their first ever Premier League title."

Jurgen Klopp and his players would be the first to tell you that it isn't over yet, but it is now looking increasingly likely that the Reds' drought will be over come May.
