Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane secured yet another Golden Boot award this afternoon - and drew praise from Gary Lineker in the process.
Kane has been the subject of much transfer speculation of late, and his performances on the pitch show exactly why he’s one of the most sought-after frontmen in Europe.
He may want out of Tottenham because of a lack of silverware, but the Englishman has once again earned individual recognition after winning his third Premier League golden boot and his first Playmaker of the Season award.
Even though he will be proud of the number of assists he recorded this season (14), goals matter most to a striker, and he will likely be more satisfied with winning the golden boot.
Kane was tied on 22 goals with Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah going into the final day, but as the Egyptian failed to score in Liverpool's crucial 2-0 win over Crystal Palace, a fine first equaliser in Spurs’ 4-2 victory over Leicester was enough to take the Englishman to a winning tally of 23.
That efficiency has earned him high praise from a number of former players, including ex-Spurs striker, Gary Lineker, who tweeted: “Congratulations to @HKane on winning his 3rd Golden boot. What a marksman.”
However, Lineker won’t be the only one who shares that thought, and with it being reported that he is looking to end his 16-year association with the club he has been at since the age of 11, a host of European clubs will be looking into the possibility of signing him for the future, in the hope that he can replicate numbers like this in their shirt.
Spurs certainly haven’t had the best of seasons, but Kane cannot be to blame for that lack of collective success, and if one thing is for certain, it’s that it’s going to be extremely difficult to replace Kane should he leave before the start of the next campaign.
