Gary Lineker's extraordinary tweet shows how far Liverpool are ahead of their Premier League rivals

Gary Lineker has revealed how much Liverpool have improved this season, as well as the gulf in class between the top two and those teams chasing Champions League football.

The race for the top four has been awash with poor results, while Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp's message to new PFA Players' Player of the Year Virgil van Dijk and Pep Guardiola's respective teams have already secured their place in next season's competition.

Liverpool haven't dropped a single point in their last seven matches and Manchester City are unbeaten in 2019.

As two best teams battle it out for the Premier League title, Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United are all battling it out for fourth.

And the former England international has pointed out the clear gap between the top two and the rest of the league.

In an extraordinary tweet, Lineker wrote: "Points won in the last 3 games by the top 2: Manchester City 9... Liverpool 9. 18 between them in 6 games.

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri makes bizarre Liverpool comparison with misfiring forward Gonzalo Higuain

"Points won in the last 3 games by the teams going for the top 4: Spurs 3...Chelsea 2...Manchester United 1... Arsenal 0. Just 6 between them in 12 games."

Tottenham were defeated 1-0 by London rivals West Ham on Saturday.

As Unai Emery's Arsenal looked to take advantage, they were destroyed 3-0 by Brendan Rodgers' Leicester City.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp's message to new PFA Players' Player of the Year Virgil van Dijk

It has been a record-breaking campaign for Klopp's men, and fans will hope they can continue this form in their final two games as well as during Wednesday's semi-final clash with Barcelona.
