Gary Lineker reveals how Alan Shearer reacted to Newcastle draw as he issues cheeky dig

Newcastle United drew 1-1 away at Watford yesterday, with Ismaila Sarr's 72nd minute equaliser cancelling out Sean Longstaff's first-half opener.

This result meant that Steve Bruce 's side are still yet to win a game, six games into the season. In fact, it's the club's sixth season in which they have gone on such a streak, which is something Gary Lineker enjoyed pointing out to Alan Shearer on last night's Match of the Day.

“First team Alan, to fail to win any of their first six games in a Premier League season, as many as six occasions,” Lineker said on the BBC show.

Newcastle 's record goalscorer replied looking at the positives from the game, saying, "Alright, don't be on the negative side. We created lots of chances!"

To which Lineker gleefully replied, "cheer up!"

Although the record is unwanted and concerning, Newcastle fans should be encouraged in what Shearer said, as their side did create far better chances than they were earlier in the season, as they did against Leeds United in their previous game.

However, they will rue missing some glorious chances. Longstaff opened the scoring with a rasping drive from distance but then failed to score with the goal gaping after Allan Saint-Maximin capitalised on an errant back pass to run through on Ben Foster.

There were further good chances for Joelinton and Joe Willock but Jacob Murphy had a glorious opportunity to win the game late on as he was sent through one-on-one with the goalkeeper and elected to try and dink the ball over Foster, only to get his finish all wrong.

And it was the array of missed chances for Newcastle which had Shearer frustrated prior to filming Match of the Day last night, as Lineker revealed.

Lineker said to Shearer: "Newcastle had their chances today Alan and all we heard were constant screams from you in the office today, of exasperation.."

Shearer replied: Yeah, they should have scored at least five today and that is no exaggeration."
