Gary Lineker has reacted to Shola Shoretire making his debut for Manchester United in Newcastle United’s 3-1 defeat.
The Magpies went 1-0 behind after 30 minutes when Marcus Rashford struck low and hard past Karl Darlow, but the visitors had a swift reply at Old Trafford.
Allan Saint-Maximin finished with aplomb after a period of pressure from Steve Bruce’s side and earned a deserved equaliser.
However, the hosts went back ahead in the second-half when Daniel James found himself free in the Newcastle box, before Bruno Fernandes scored from the penalty spot to ensure the three points.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer brought on youngster Shola Shoretire with minutes to go in Manchester - a 17-year-old who was born in Newcastle. The teenage winger started his career at the Magpies before moving at the age of 10.
He was a member of the Wallsend Boys Club and the Magpies’ academy before he made the switch to Manchester at a young age.
Lineker has taken to Twitter to post a joke about Shoretire, referencing the Newcastle-based reality TV show Geordie Shore.
The Match of the Day presenter said: “A @ManUtd Premier League debut for Shola Shoretire against his hometown club. Geordie Shoretire.”
The youngster barely got a chance to impress for the hosts, with just minutes on the pitch but has been tipped to have a great career.
