Gary Lineker provides Liverpool and Man City Premier League title verdict in two tweets

Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker has provided his verdict on the Premier League title race after Liverpool received a boost in the form of Manchester City dropping more points.

City battled hard at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon as they came from behind after Cenk Tosun's opener before Sergio Aguero gave them a 2-1 lead late on.

But that brace was cancelled out by a Fernandinho own goal which led to Pep Guardiola's men dropping two more points.

It now means that Liverpool lead the Premier League table by 13 points and have two games in hand on the two-time reigning champions.

The first of those is at home to Manchester United tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon at Anfield and it's safe to say that the Reds will be in a buoyant mood for the rivalry game.

Lineker feels that Liverpool will have every right to feel that way on Merseyside tomorrow afternoon as he is backing the Reds to cruise to their first domestic league title since 1990 and first Premier League crown.

Lineker tweeted as he provided a play on words: "Liverpool’s lead is now 13 points with 2 games in hand. They’re walking alone to the earliest title victory in history."

He followed it up with: "The Palace have announced Meghan & Harry have renounced their titles. Meanwhile Palace have announced Man City have renounced theirs."

City have now dropped 21 points this season in 23 matches compared with 16 over the entire 2018/19 campaign.
