Gary Lineker perfectly dismisses Liverpool Premier League title myth

Gary Lineker has moved to shut down the suggestion that Liverpool's Premier League title victory will be a one-off event under Jurgen Klopp.

Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United are all expected to be back stronger next season, meaning the challenge will be tougher for the Reds, but Lineker says they can sustain their success.

As he pointed out on Twitter, Liverpool picked up 97 points last season, even if they were beaten to top spot by Pep Guardiola's men.

They also picked up the Champions League trophy, beating Tottenham in Madrid, so they have already proven their consistency.

Teams have always found retaining the title incredibly difficult, and Liverpool will be no different, but even if they do not make any signings this summer, there are plenty of young players coming through the system who can supplement their squad.

They are also on track to win the title by a record points total - the current record is 19 points and they are currently 23 points ahead - meaning that even if there was a slight drop-off next year, they would still at least be in the mix.

Liverpool play Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium next, with Guardiola already having confirmed that his team will give the Reds a guard of honour pre-match.
