England cruised to a 5-1 victory over Montenegro on Monday and despite the negative racism headlines, it’s important not to forget the positivity surrounding the performance as well.
The win came on the back of a sensational 5-0 success at home to Czech Republic on Friday night and former England star Gary Lineker has epitomised the good feeling by reeling off a list of names who are the leading lights of a new generation.
Lineker naturally included the likes of Spurs’ Harry Kane and Man City’s Raheem Sterling when discussing the talent at Gareth Southgate’s disposal, but he also named Newcastle United starlet Sean Longstaff.
Lineker tweeted : “England are good. Will be better. Some have been around for a while...Sterling, Kane, Stones, Maguire, Walker, Trippier, Rashford....then there’s Alexander-Arnold, Foden, Hudson-Odoi, Gomez, Sancho, Rice, Nelson, Longstaff, Gibbs-White, Clarke, Chilwell, Greenwood. I could go on.”

Longstaff is yet to nail down a regular starting spot for Newcastle but the 21-year-old has featured ten times for the Magpies this season.
The Newcastle-born midfielder has not featured on the international stage yet but Lineker’s praise is sure to go down well with Newcastle fans and the player himself.
The future is bright for not only England, but the Magpies as well.
