Gary Lineker names Arsenal, Chelsea and West Ham starlets as the future of English football

Former England star Gary Lineker has listed Arsenal, Chelsea and West Ham United starlets among England's best players after the latest strong showing from the national side.

Lineker epitomised the positivity surrounding the Three Lions squad right now when he reeled off a list of names who are at the forefront of the new generation of talent.

England defeated Czech Republic 5-0 last Friday at Wembley before securing an impressive 5-1 victory at Montenegro on Monday.

Lineker naturally included the likes of Spurs' Harry Kane and Kieran Trippier in the list after the duo played key roles in England’s run to the semi-finals of the World Cup last year, with Kane continuing to succeed at club and international level.

But the names thrown in there with Kane and Trippier were the likes of Chelsea starlet Callum Hudson-Odoi and Arsenal teenager Reiss Nelson, while West Ham’s Declan Rice also gained a mention.

Lineker tweeted: “England are good. Will be better. Some have been around for a while...Sterling, Kane, Stones, Maguire, Walker, Trippier, Rashford....then there’s Alexander-Arnold, Foden, Hudson-Odoi, Gomez, Sancho, Rice, Nelson, Longstaff, Gibbs-White, Clarke, Chilwell, Greenwood. I could go on.”

Hudson-Odoi may not have started in the Premier League for Chelsea just yet but was trusted by Gareth Southgate from the start on Monday as he assisted Ross Barkley’s first goal in a solid display.

Nelson is yet to feature for the senior side but has played his part for the England under-21s and is currently impressing whilst on loan in the German Bundesliga playing for Hoffenheim.

Rice, meanwhile, has starred for West Ham this season and after making the decision to choose England over Republic of Ireland, made his debut in the 5-0 win over Czech Republic last Friday.

Lineker’s list certainly highlights the number of promising players at Southgate’s disposal.

The future is bright for the England national team.
