Gary Lineker mocks Jose Mourinho for losing on Man United return as Spurs boss

Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Gary Lineker has taken a sly dig at Jose Mourinho.

The Spurs head coach returned to Old Trafford on Wednesday night trying to protect his 100 per cent record since returning to management last month.

After being sacked by Manchester United almost 12 months ago, all eyes were on the Portuguese boss as he made his comeback in Manchester.

While Mourinho's time in Manchester ended in defeat, the Tottenham boss insisted he would be happy to see some familiar faces on Wednesday night.

Ahead of his return to Manchester, some papers even reported that the Portuguese boss would meet up with some of those he considered 'friends' before the match.

Mourinho was seen embracing both of his former goalkeepers David de Gea and Sergio Romero, who both seemed to enjoy their time under the Portuguese boss, prior to kick-off.

But after a clash with Harry Winks in the first half, Daniel James was seen tumbling off the pitch, colliding with Mourinho before hitting the deck.

While neither James nor the Tottenham boss were injured, Lineker made fun of the situation.

Writing on Twitter, he said: "Can’t see why James would foul Mourinho, he wasn’t even playing for  @ManUtd  when he was there."

It turned out to be a first defeat as Tottenham boss for Mourinho, as a Marcus Rashford brace condemned Spurs to a 2-1 defeat to Manchester United, despite a brilliant goal from Dele Alli.

And Lineker was at it again when he tweeted after the game about Mourinho's return to Old Trafford.

Writing on Twitter, he said: "Mourinho's struggles at Old Trafford continue."
