Gary Lineker makes Tottenham joke that will 'depress' the Spurs fans

Gary Lineker has delivered a killer blow to Tottenham on Match of the Day.

The former Spurs striker and Match of the Day host is like many others in wondering what on earth is going wrong at Tottenham this season.

Ninth in the Premier League and struggling in the Champions League group stages, Mauricio Pochettino is under huge pressure.

It has been a terrible week for Tottenham fans, with the thumping 7-2 defeat at home to Bayern Munich being followed up by a 3-0 loss away at Brighton on Saturday.

And in analysing Tottenham's defeat on the south coast on Saturday lunchtime, Lineker and pundits Alan Shearer and Danny Murphy stuck the boot in even further.

Lineker asked his guests "what's gone wrong with Spurs?"

And in response Shearer brought up the issue of Spurs' pressing game, which has clearly been lacking this season so far, and last season too.

The stats show that Tottenham are averaging 10.6 presses per game so far this season, which is far below the numbers from the previous four seasons, when they averaged anywhere between 13 and 16 presses per game.

Pochettino on his future at Spurs

And upon those stats being shown on screen, Lineker made a horrible joke that will only rub salt into the Spurs wounds.

He said: "They've de-pressed? They're like their supporters really."

It is probably a fair comment, given the results of late, but it will not make Spurs fans feel any better.
