Gary Lineker fears season is ending after Man City vs Arsenal postponed

Gary Lineker has made an ominous coronavirus prediction about the Premier League season which would impact both Manchester City and Manchester United .

Over 4,000 people have died worldwide due to the coronavirus, with six of those now coming from the UK.

There has been an alarming rise in cases in the UK, with that number now having hit 456 at the time of writing.

But whilst countries across Europe decide to play football matches behind closed doors in places such as Spain and France, with Italy's Serie A also suspended, it's business as usual for the most part in the Premier League and the Football League.

Only City's home match with Arsenal tonight has been postponed due to the coronavirus after Nottingham Forest and Olympiacos owner Evangelos Marinakis, who recently visited Arsenal, tested positive.

But the Premier League is going full steam ahead this weekend with fans allowed to attend as normal.

Lineker, however, believes everything will change sooner rather than later and tweeted a philosophical message ahead of making the trip to Liverpool to cover their Champions League last 16 second-leg tie at home to Atletico Madrid.

"Manchester City vs Arsenal is postponed. Off to Liverpool but can't help feeling like it's the beginning of the end of the football season," Lineker explained.

"Despite the words of the late Bill Shankly, football is not more serious than life and death."
