Gary Lineker makes pledge to football fans over European Super League

Gary Lineker has told football fans he will not present any European Super League matches if the widely condemned breakaway competition goes ahead.

The plans that were announced late on Sunday night have been widely condemned and Lineker is the latest figure in the media to express his disappointment at the proposal.

Regarded as one of England's finest ever strikers, Lineker has been a prominent figure in the media since his retirement and has hosted BBC's Match of the Day for 22 years.

Lineker famously celebrated Leicester's Premier League triumph - the club he supports - on the show in an unconventional manner six years ago, and the Foxes are among the 14 sides in England's top tier that aren't included in the European Super League plans.

"To be clear: if it actually happens, I will never work on this European Super League," Lineker wrote on Twitter.

The Premier League, alongside The FA, met with clubs on Tuesday to discuss the immediate implications of the Super League proposal, stating they 'unanimously and vigorously' rejected the plans.
