Gary Lineker makes Liverpool title race prediction after Leicester City close Premier League gap

Gary Lineker thinks Leicester City could win the Premier League title this season if Liverpool weren't so "relentlessly good".

The former Foxes frontman made the statement on social media after Brendan Rodgers' side thrashed Aston Villa.

Jamie Vardy scored his 15th and 16th goals of the campaign to help Leicester to a comfortable 4-1 win at Villa Park.

Kelechi Iheanacho and Jonny Evans were also on the scoresheet as the Foxes recorded an eighth straight victory in the league.

Leicester's win has helped them close the gap on Liverpool to eight points, and following Man City's 2-1 loss to Man United on Saturday they now sit six points clear of last season's champions.

And the Match of the Day host thinks if Jurgen Klopp's outfit weren't as relentless - having won 15 games and drawn just once - his former club might stand a chance of winning a second Premier League title following their shock success in 2016.

After Leicester raced into a two goal lead, Lineker wrote to Twitter: "Watch out @LFC, The Foxes are on your tail."

Ahead of the final whistle the ex-England striker then added: "If Liverpool weren’t so relentlessly good, I’d fancy that this Leicester team could actually win this league. What a time to be alive."

The Reds, who climbed 14 points clear of Man City with a routine 3-0 win at Bournemouth, now make the trip to Austria for the make or break Champions League clash with RB Salzburg.

Upon their return Liverpool will host Watford at Anfield on Saturday, with their next Premier League encounter scheduled to come against the Foxes on Boxing Day.
