Gary Lineker makes coronavirus prediction that Leeds United fans will pray won't come true

Leeds United are on course to end a 16-year wait for Premier League football.

The Whites sit top of the Championship with nine league matches to play, with a seven-point gap on third-place Fulham.

After a sketchy patch of form, five consecutive wins, with no goals conceded, has put Marcelo Bielsa's men on track to avoid a repeat of last year's end-of-season wobble.

However, the outbreak of the coronavirus has put a standstill to football in other countries, whilst Arsenal's match against Manchester City has also been postponed this week.

There are genuine fears that, as a result, the football season could be halted, or worse still, deemed void due to the current health crisis.

It's a prediction that former Leicester City and England striker Gary Lineker has made, tweeting that he fears we could see the premature end of the football season.

Lineker tweeted: "Manchester City v Arsenal is postponed. [I am] Off to Liverpool [tonight] but can’t help feeling like it’s the beginning of the end of the football season.

"Despite the words of the late Bill Shankly, football is not more serious than life and death."

Whilst, of course, the health of everyone connected in football must be prioritised, Leeds fans will be praying that doesn't come at the cost of their promotion bid.
