Gary Lineker makes bold claim about Mason Mount after Chelsea's win over Fulham

Mason Mount has received high praise following his goal for Chelsea in tonight's win over Fulham.

Chelsea found the Cottagers difficult to break down with Scott Parker's men slipping into an even more organised shape than the one they started with after losing Antonee Robinson to a red card on the brink of half-time.

Fulham held on for dear life and frustrated the Blues until Mount fired in a perfectly-hit half-volley with just 12 minutes to go to ensure Chelsea end their poor run of form.

Mount has been ever-present in the Chelsea midfield under Frank Lampard despite receiving criticism from some sections of the support for his performances.

But as far as Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker is concerned, he is the club's best player despite Chelsea spending more than £200million during the summer to revamp their squad with some huge signings, including the likes of Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Ben Chilwell.

Lineker tweeted after Mount's goal: "Huge goal for @ChelseaFC and Frank Lampard scored by @masonmount_10.

"For all their signings and money spent, for me, he’s their best player. Great technically, fantastic energy and work rate, really consistent, can play in multiple positions and scores goals."

Mount has already made 25 appearances for Chelsea across all competitions this season, missing just one Premier League game to-date when he was left on the bench for the 4-0 win over Crystal Palace early in the season.

Lampard actually defended Mount after criticism earlier in the season. He said: "He doesn’t do too many triple stepovers or flicks over the back of his head as he shouldn’t do. He makes really efficient, clean and sharp passes.

“He presses as well as any midfielder that I have worked or trained alongside and he does 100 things within his game that impresses the managers that he works for.

“It is very easy to say because he hasn’t got an Instagram reel of different flicks but it is a different type of football. It is easy to bracket him off and I don’t say that."
