Gary Lineker lists missing Liverpool duo among England’s best after Montenegro win

England cruised to an important win over Montenegro on Monday evening and it’s safe to say after back to back five-goal dominant successes, positivity surrounding the national team is at a high.

Gary Lineker epitomised this post-match when he reeled off a list of names who are at the forefront of the new generation of England talent, with two Liverpool players included.

England defeated Czech Republic 5-0 last Friday at Wembley before securing an impressive 5-1 victory at Montenegro on Monday.

Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold was supposed to be involved in the squad for both qualifiers but had to pull out due to a minor back injury.

But despite this, Lineker still had praise for the right-back after the win against Montenegro.

Another player treated to kind words was fellow Liverpool starlet Joe Gomez. The defender has suffered several setbacks but the most recent was a leg fracture sustained last December.

The 21-year-old is expected to return after the international break but has already impressed for the Reds. Gomez has also featured six times for the national team already and Lineker feels he is one of the best prospects for the future alongside Liverpool team-mate Alexander-Arnold.

Former Liverpool star Raheem Sterling says England silenced 'racists' after alleged abuse in Montenegro

Lineker tweeted: “England are good. Will be better. Some have been around for a while...Sterling, Kane, Stones, Maguire, Walker, Trippier, Rashford....then there’s Alexander-Arnold, Foden, Hudson-Odoi, Gomez, Sancho, Rice, Nelson, Longstaff, Gibbs-White, Clarke, Chilwell, Greenwood. I could go on.”

It’s certainly a list of promising players. This future is bright for both Liverpool and England.
