Gary Lineker leads Dominic Calvert-Lewin praise following Everton star's debut England goal

Dominic Calvert-Lewin carried his scoring streak with Everton onto the international stage after scoring on his England debut against Wales.

The 23-year-old striker has scored six goals in four Premier League matches this season, including a hat-trick against West Brom and also hit a trio of goals against West Ham in the Carabao Cup.

That form earned him his first call-up to Gareth Southgate's Three Lions squad and he grasped his opportunity with both hands after opening the scoring in the first half at Wembley Stadium.

Calvert-Lewin became the first Everton striker to score for England at Wembley since Gary Lineker against Turkey 35 years ago and he led the praise after taking to social media.

"When you get that opportunity with England, you simply have to grasp it. For a striker that has to be by scoring. Well played and congratulations Calvert-Lewin for your debut goal," he tweeted.

Another former England striker, Ian Wright, also heaped praise upon the forward following his breakthrough on the international stage, issuing his verdict at half-time.

“I’m delighted for him. He’s having a good game, a very good game. He’s causing the defenders all sorts of problems and he deserved his goals. You have to say, the defenders could’ve been a bit tighter, but he gave them a warning early on with his movement," he told ITV.

"If you look at the defenders, we’re talking about how dangerous he is - he’s going in on his own, someone has to pick him up, get tighter to him. They can’t make the header this easy. When it comes in, he’s been gobbling them up.”
