Gary Lineker infuriates Liverpool fans with tweet poking fun at title failings

Gary Lineker jokingly took aim at Liverpool following Manchester City's shock defeat by Wolves - and Reds fans weren't best pleased.

The Match of the Day host, who is very active on Twitter when the Premier League is in full flow on a weekend, took to social media to provide his thoughts on the Citizens' slip up in the title race.

"Surely it's Liverpool's title now," tweeted Lineker. "It's not like they've given up substantial leads before."

The tweet references Liverpool failing to win the Premier League title last season, despite being seven points clear of Man City ahead of their January encounter at the Etihad.

Manchester City came out on top in the match and went on to claw back Liverpool's advantage, eventually beating them to the title on the final day of the season.

The Reds are arguably in a better position this campaign given they are already eight points clear of their title rivals and showing no signs of letting up.

It is still far too early to name Liverpool out and out favourites for the title, given just eight matches of a scheduled 38 have been played.

But Reds supporters are understandably positive that this will finally be the year they win a very first Premier League title.
