Match of the Day host Gary Lineker has hit out at VAR after Aston Villa were denied an equaliser in their 1-0 defeat to Manchester United.
United had taken the lead through Scott McTominay in the eighth minute but the visitors thought they were level in the second half when Danny Ings bundled the ball home.
However, on-field referee Michael Oliver was asked to check the pitch side monitor and after a lengthy consultation, the goal was ruled out for offside on Villa player Jacob Ramsey.
Taking to Twitter, the former Everton, Leicester City and Barcelona striker said: "Rather strange intervention from VAR.
"Seemed determined to find some reason to rule out the goal.
"Not sure that was anywhere near enough."
In the BBC studio, Micah Richards agreed with Lineker.
He added: "When they look back at it, Ramsey was stood twice to the right.
"He impedes him but you don’t know if (Edinson) Cavani was going to get there.
"He didn’t exactly hold him when he got there he held his ground he stepped to the side and Cavani ran into him and it took so long to make the decision it was just ridiculous."
Manchester United's victory means that they will now host Middlesbrough at home in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
