Gary Lineker hits out at criticism of Manchester United star Marcus Rashford

Gary Lineker has launched a passionate defence of Manchester United's Marcus Rashford.

Rashford was one of three players for England, alongside Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka, who failed to convert from the spot in the Three Lions' clash against Italy in the European Championship final at Wembley.

In the aftermath of that defeat, Rashford and his England teammates have been subjected to disgusting abuse and vitriol.

Among those abusive comments, one Conservative MP, Natalie Elphicke, was forced to apologise after saying Rashford should have spent more time 'perfecting his game' than 'playing politics' and now Lineker has hit back against that claim with his response.

"He’d have practiced taking penalties. He’s a great player and an excellent penalty taker," Lineker wrote on social media. "The true greats of our game have all missed penalties. Also helping to feed hungry children is not politics.

"It’s just basic human kindness, something this young man possesses in abundance."

You can send Rashford your message of support in the comments below.
