Gary Lineker gives perfect response after VAR decision awards penalty against Everton

Former Everton forward Gary Lineker has taken aim at VAR after it awarded Brighton a penalty.

Marco’s Silva’s side were leading 2-1 at the Amex when referee Andrew Madley opted to go to VAR following a challenge by Michael Keane on Aaron Connolly inside the box.

Following a length review, Lee Mason, on VAR duty at Stockley Park, awarded the spot-kick which was converted by Neal Maupay.

Everton’s players were incensed by the decision with many appealing to the on-field official.

And Lineker quickly took to Twitter to air his displeasure over the decision to award the spot-kick.

He wrote: "VAR hasn’t given a penalty this season, finally gives one to Brighton for next to nothing.

"The bar that has been at pole vault heights has descended to limbo dancing levels.”

Silva’s side were eventually beaten on the South Coast after Lucas Digne turned the ball into his own net in the fourth minute of stoppage time.
