Despite Liverpool being eliminated from the FA Cup at the hands of one of their biggest rivals, there will still be some positives to take from the game.
Jurgen Klopp’s side lost 3-2 to Manchester United on Sunday night in their FA Cup fifth round tie, with Mohamed Salah netting both goals for the Reds.
It means that Liverpool have won only one of their last seven matches in all competitions, and once again fail to reach the quarter final of the competition under Klopp’s management.
Going into the game a lot was said about Liverpool’s lack of goals, with the strike from Salah their first since the win over Aston Villa in the last round of the FA Cup a fortnight previously.
Despite that brace from Salah, Liverpool are still without a league goal in 2021, with their last league strike coming from Sadio Mane in the draw with West Brom at the end of last month.
BBD pundit Gary Lineker, who was at Old Trafford for Liverpool’s defeat to United, took to Twitter after Salah’s opening goal to provide to positivity.
“Firmino to Salah and it’s 1-0,” wrote Lineker.
“Been a while since that’s happened, but form is fickle, class is enduring.”
Salah now has 19 goals in 28 matches across all competitions, making him among the top scorers across Europe’s top five leagues this season.
