Gary Lineker believes Cristiano Ronaldo's potential move to Manchester City is a "win win" for both parties.
The Juventus star is looking to leave Turin before the transfer window slams shut and the Premier League champions have emerged as a surprise destination.
A move seems to be edging closer with reports stating a verbal agreement is in place.
Juventus want any club to pay a modest transfer fee of around £25m before they allow Ronaldo to leave.
City have spent much of the summer chasing Harry Kane, but Tottenham stood firm on their £160m valuation.
The striker has now announced that he will be staying in north London leaving Pep Guardiola's side with precious little time to add reinforcements in that area.
Sergio Aguero has left leaving Gabriel Jesus as the club's only recognised striker - but the arrival of Ronaldo would certainly bring goals.
Lineker sees the move as beneficial for City and the five-time Ballon d'Or winner - both on and off the field.
He tweeted: "There’s no question that @Cristiano would be a great signing for both @ManCity and himself. He turns a ‘new money’ club into a global giant instantly bringing 100s of millions of fans….and Ronaldo gets a team that’s made for him in the twilight of his stunning career. Win, win."
Ronaldo, now 36, has continued to be prolific in Italy, even if his switch has not worked out as planned.
The Portuguese star has enjoyed huge success in the Champions League - an honour still to elude the Premier League champions.
Ronaldo won competition four times with Real Madrid and once with Manchester United.
The forward's history with the Red Devils has sparked plenty of debate, especially given the player himself distanced himself for a City move years ago.
He once said: "You think the money is going to change my mind at 30-years-old? I don't think so, I don't think this going to be a problem.
"If you speak about the money I could go to Qatar, they would probably have more money than Manchester City."
Ronaldo's former team-mate Wayne Rooney admits he doesn't foresee the move happening, even though super agent Jorge Mendes is doing his utmost in negotiations.
“I think Cristiano has got a very good legacy at Manchester United and I know how proud he is as a player and a person," he told talkSPORT .
"I can’t see [him joining City], but it’s football so you never know. There have been a few that have done it but no one at Cristiano’s level. Obviously Peter Schmeichel and Andy Cole, but I just can’t see that as an option for him really."
