Gary Lineker delivers verdict on Kai Havertz after Chelsea's win over Crystal Palace

Gary Lineker has heaped praise on Kai Havertz after he opened the scoring for Chelsea in their comfortable victory against Crystal Palace.

The Germany international netted his sixth goal of the season in all competitions for the Blues and helped the side on their way against the Eagles.

Callum Hudson-Odoi picked the ball up on the right-hand side before seeing Havertz picking up a bit of space in behind the Palace back-line, where he turned and found the bottom corner with a fine left-footed strike.

The £71million signing went onto assist the next goal as well, finding Christian Pulisic - who smashed the ball into the roof of the net.

Lineker, taking to Twitter, was full of praise for Havertz for his goal which broke the deadlock at an empty Selhurst Park.

The Match of the Day presenter said: "Classy finish from @kaihavertz29 gives @ChelseaFC the lead."

It was indeed that - classy, but the 21-year-old wasn't completely satisfied with his display on Saturday evening.

Havertz thinks he should have scored more in the 90 minutes but was pleased to make his mark for the Blues.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, the German said: “Of course, in my position, you always want to score. In the last few months, it was not easy and I didn’t have many chances.

"Today, I got some chances, I think I can score one or two more but of course I’m happy and we’re happy with the result.

It's a quick turnaround for Chelsea, who now have under 72 hours to prepare for their Champions League quarter-final second-leg with Porto.

The Blues made light work of the Portuguese side last Wednesday, with a 2-0 victory away from home.
