Gary Lineker was left hailing Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka after the youngster turned in a match-winning performance for England against Austria.
The Gunners’ utility man was selected by Gareth Southgate from the off at the Riverside Stadium on Wednesday evening for the fifth senior England cap of his career, and fifth start.
He was extremely impressive throughout the evening and capped his performance with the winning goal by tapping home after the ball fell kindly for him in the box.
Having been included in the Three Lions' squad for Euro 2020, Lineker already seems impressed by the 19-year-old and shared his thoughts on Twitter after the goal, and sent a thoughtful message to Saka in the process.
He wrote: “Congratulations to @BukayoSaka87 on his first @England goal. Such a wonderfully talented young footballer.”
The goal continues the Arsenal man’s impressive output throughout the 2020/21 campaign having scored seven goals and notched ten assists for the Gunners in all competitions this season.
It is that form that has seen him catch the eye from a number of quarters.
Not only have Southgate and Lineker sat up to notice but Saka has also been nominated for the Premier League young player of the year award.
The vote for that particular gong remains open until 6pm tonight.
Going forwards, he will hope to continue staking a claim for the starting berth in the Three Lions’ set-up ahead of the Euros.
England face another friendly before the tournament kicks off as they take on Romania on Sunday evening.
