Gary Lineker congratulates Man City after beating Liverpool FC to Premier League title

Former England striker Gary Lineker has congratulated Manchester City for securing the Premier League title in a dramatic final day.

City travelled to Brighton's AMEX Stadium knowing that a victory against the Seagulls would see Pep Guardiola's side become the first side in a decade to retain their crown but things did not start according to plan.

As news trickled in of Liverpool taking the lead against Wolves, Brighton took the lead through Glenn Murray - which put the Reds top of the pile as things stood.

However, Sergio Aguero quickly fired home an equaliser and City went on to win after further goals from Aymeric Laporte, Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan.

After the conclusion of the title race, Match of the Day host Lineker posted a message of congratulations to City on Twitter.

"Congratulations to Man City on being the first club to retain the Premier League title for 10 years. A simply magnificent season," he posted on social media.

"Congratulations too to Liverpool. To finish second on 97 points with only one defeat is extraordinary. A simply magnificent season."

City now turn their attentions towards next weekend's FA Cup final against Watford at Wembley, where Guardiola will be aiming to secure a domestic treble.
