Gary Lineker calls out Premier League ahead of Liverpool and Man City matches

Gary Lineker has suggested the Premier League is not helping English sides in Europe.

Both Manchester clubs, Liverpool and Tottenham all face the second legs of their quarter-final ties this week.

Manchester United travel to Barcelona on Tuesday night before City host Tottenham and Liverpool face Porto on Wednesday.

While United and Spurs both played on Saturday, title rivals Liverpool and City are in action on Sunday afternoon.

And Match of the Day host Lineker thinks the Premier League should reschedule matches to give their sides a better chance of progress in Europe.

Gary Lineker calls for huge Champions League rule change following quarter-finals

"Crazy that both Liverpool and Manchester City play tomorrow," he posted on Twitter .

"No other sides in Europe that are still in the Champions League would ever play on a Sunday before midweek CL fixtures.

"The Premier League needs to look after their own."

Lineker's comments come after he called on UEFA to change the away goals rule ahead of next season's competition.

He made the suggestion after United's 1-0 defeat to Barcelona at Old Trafford, which leaves them with an uphill battle to qualify for the last four.

“I don't know about you but I'd love to see an experiment for one season where they get rid of the away goal rule," he said.

Man Utd on red alert as Juventus consider Paulo Dybala deal

“I just think home legs, first legs, I just think everyone is a little bit cautious.

“They've got a fear of giving away an away goal or two and, if you get an away goal it's like, 'woah, that's it'.”

Liverpool lead Porto 2-0 ahead of the return leg in Portugal while Spurs have a 1-0 advantage over City before their clash at the Etihad.
