Gary Lineker calls for huge Champions League rule change following quarter-finals

Gary Lineker has again called on UEFA to change the away goals rule in the Champions League.

Lineker was speaking after Manchester United's defeat to Barcelona in the first leg of their quarter-final at Old Trafford.

Barca will take a 1-0 lead back to the Nou Camp after Luke Shaw turned Luis Suarez's header into his own net.

The La Liga leaders were far from their best against United, while the hosts impressed in the second half without really testing Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

And Lineker, who was presenting BT Sport's coverage of the clash, suggested current rules continue to impact approaches over two legs.

Paul Pogba's response to Real Madrid question after Man Utd loss to Barcelona

“I don't know about you but I'd love to see an experiment for one season where they get rid of the away goal rule,” he said to the punditry team.

“I just think home legs, first legs, I just think everyone is a little bit cautious.

“They've got a fear of giving away an away goal or two and, if you get an away goal it's like, 'woah, that's it'.”

What Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said to Lionel Messi after Man Utd defeat to Barcelona

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer remains confident his side can find the net in Barcelona, having overcome a first-leg deficit against PSG in the last round.

"We're playing against a great team. It's a tough one - we'll go there with the knowledge we can score over there," Solskjaer said.

"We go there with one thing in my mind: we have to score.

"The PSG performance gives us hope and belief we can do it, but we are playing against the favourites."

Man United take on Barcelona at the Nou Camp on Tuesday April 16.
