Gary Lineker blasts Roman Abramovich and Chelsea for Frank Lampard sack decision

BBC Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker believes the reports that Frank Lampard will be sacked on Monday are' utterly ludicrous'.

Writing to his 7.8 million followers on Twitter Liniker added 'it was always going to need time.'

Chelsea sit ninth in the Premier League table after playing half their league games this season and are 11 points behind leaders Manchester United.

Frank Lampard has come under increasing pressure in recent weeks following a poor run of form, winning just 2 league games in their past eight and sliding down the table.

The timing of the impending dismissal has caught some by surprise considering that the Blues ran out 3-1 winner over Luton Town in the FA Cup on Sunday and have now won three of their past four in all competitions.

However, Chelsea have always demanded high standards from their managers and after being given a war chest of over £200 million in the summer transfer window instant success was demanded from Lampard.

Reaction to Lineker's tweet was mixed with some agreeing it was too soon whilst others claimed that Chelsea's regular hiring and firing of managers was a club policy that has brought great success.

Reports have emerged that Thomas Tuchel has been lined up to replace Lampard. The German was recently removed from his position as manager of Paris Saint-Germain and replaced by former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Other names mentioned in relation to the Chelsea job are former Juventus and AC Milan manager Max Allegri and ex-Chelsea striker Andriy Shevchenko.
