Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker has asked the one question many football fans are thinking after Man City 's European competition ban was overturned.
Uefa had suspended City from the next two seasons of the Champions League and Europa League due to breaching Financial Fair Play rules.
But the punishment was always subject to an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which has since announced that the club have been cleared of 'disguising equity funds as sponsorship contributions'.
Uefa had previously declared in February that 'serious breaches' of Financial Fair Play regulations had occurred between 2012 and 2016.
City have still been fined but that has been cut from £26.9 million to £8.9m, though the club have claimed the result is a 'validation of the club's position and the body of evidence that it was able to present'.
However, many fans have naturally reacted to the news in a similar fashion to Lineker, who has questioned whether Financial Fair Play is over.
"Manchester City’s ban has been lifted on appeal. Still a fine to be paid, but a huge win for the club," Lineker said on Twitter.
"Hard to see how UEFA’s FFP rules can survive this. In fact, can UEFA survive the ramifications?"
The CAS statement explained: "The award emphasised that most of the alleged breaches reported by the adjudicatory chamber of the CFCB were either not established or time-barred.
"As the charges with respect to any dishonest concealment of equity funding were clearly more significant violations than obstructing the CFCB's investigations, it was not appropriate to impose a ban on participating in Uefa's club competitions for Manchester City's failure to cooperate with the CFCB's investigations alone."
UEFA responded to the verdict by stating: "Over the last few years, Financial Fair Play has played a significant role in protecting clubs and helping them become financially sustainable and Uefa and the European Club Association remain committed to its principles."
