Gary Lineker and Rio Ferdinand slammed by Liverpool fans for reaction to Lionel Messi goal

Gary Lineker and Rio Ferdinand could not hide their delight at Lionel Messi's latest Champions League heroics.

The Barcelona captain scored twice in his side's 3-0 semi-final victory over Liverpool , including a stunning free-kick from 35 yards.

Messi's second was his 600th career goal and brought the house down at the Nou Camp.

Lineker, a former Barcelona and Everton striker, was fronting BT Sport's coverage of the clash alongside ex-Manchester United skipper Ferdinand.

And the pair were jumping for joy as Messi scored his second to seemingly take the tie away from Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp's message to Liverpool players in dressing room after Barcelona defeat

The footage was caught on camera by BT Sport with Lineker and Ferdinand both screaming 'Wow' as the Nou Camp went wild.

The celebrations have not gone down well among Liverpool fans though, who suggested the pair should be hoping for the best for English clubs - or at least showing some impartiality.

Arsene Wenger's two-word assessment of Liverpool's defeat by Barcelona

Messi scored twice for his side after Luis Suarez opened the scoring against his former club.

And Ferdinand suggested recently-crowned PFA Player of the Year Virgil van Dijk had not covered himself in glory on the biggest stage.

"Virgil van Dijk here, he is at fault," said Ferdinand on BT Sport.

Jurgen Klopp reveals the one thing that made him happy in Barcelona defeat

"He can see Suarez there, he is pointing where he wants it. It's not rocket scienes. It's right in front of him.

"That's your man, the number nine on the back of his shirt, static. Virgil van Dijk there, static. And that's criminal in that position.

"He has got to be Matip's eyes and ears. Move Matip to where you want to maybe stop the ball in the first instance but if not, you have to go with your man there.

"And he will be disappointed with that I am sure."
