Gary Lineker and Gary Neville disagree over this ‘disrespectful’ act ahead of England vs Italy

Gary Neville has disagreed with former Spurs striker Gary Lineker over the booing of national anthems throughout Euro 2020.

Audible boos for opposition national anthems have been heard from the Wembley stands throughout the tournament, particularly during the England’s last-16 clash with Germany.

This has continued up until the semi-final victory against Denmark, with many involved in the game taking different approaches to the action; some suggesting that it is just a harmless act with fans returning to some stadiums, others suggesting that it is slightly disrespectful.

There has as a result been worries over the actions of some supporters, as Gareth Southgate’s men prepare to take on Italy in the final of Euro 2020 at Wembley Stadium on Sunday evening.

That has continued between Lineker and Neville, with each of them falling on both sides of the argument.

Former Spurs England forward Lineker took to Twitter to express his opinions on Thursday evening.

He wrote: “If you’re lucky enough to get a ticket for the final, please, please don’t boo the Italian anthem. A/ It’s an absolute belter and worth listening to. B/ It’s bloody rude, disrespectful and utterly classless.”

Meanwhile, ex-Manchester United man Neville also weighed in on the debate, claiming the opposite stance to Lineker.

He tweeted: “When I played in the different countries and our NA [national anthem] was booed I always took it as the opposition fans trying to unsettle us , drown our fans out and never as some kind of attack on us as people.

“Same when we did it other teams. Is it really that bad and disrespectful?”
