Gary Lineker and Cesc Fabregas congratulate Arsenal icon Ian Wright after Hall of Fame induction

Arsenal legend Ian Wright is the latest name to be inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame after a stellar career with the Gunners. Wright joins the likes of Wayne Rooney, Patrick Vieira and Didier Drogba as part of the 2022 group.

The 58-year-old played for the side between 1991 and 1998, scoring 128 goals in 221 appearances for the club. In his time at Arsenal, Wright won a Premier League title, two FA cups, a League cup and a European cup winners’ cup.

Taking to Twitter after he was inducted, the former striker turned pundit said: “You have to remember that for the majority of my football journey, I never thought I'd become a professional footballer. So to do that, enjoy the times I had with the fans and my teammates and now to receive this accolade, is a true honour. I feel really humbled and grateful.”

Wright is still hailed by Arsenal fans to this day, with his support for the club clearly on show for all to see. His infectious personality has equally made him a joy for the neutral to watch on their TV screens.

It only takes a glance at social media to see how revered he is, with a number of former players and fans taking a moment to congratulate him. Former Tottenham striker and Match of the Day host Gary Lineker said: “Congratulations @IanWright0 Richly deserved. Well played.”

Ex-Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas also joined the plaudits, adding a clapping emoji, a heart emoji and hands together as his response. Former Crystal Palace winger Yannick Bolasie also added: “Legend!!!!!! Reason most of us from the ends wanted to ball.”

It goes to show just how loved and, perhaps, just how deserving Wright is of recognition from his time in the Premier League.
