Gary Lineker accuses Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson of diving

Gary Lineker has accused Callum Wilson of diving in a key incident during Newcastle United's Premier League clash with Fulham.

Newcastle were trailing to a Matt Ritchie own goal in Saturday night's showdown at St James' Park as the game approached the hour mark.

Then, the Magpies were awarded a penalty after Wilson was adjudged to have been fouled in the area by Fulham defender Joachim Andersen.

Referee Graham Scott consulted his pitchside monitor to confirm whether he had made the correct decision.

There was initially some debate as to whether the incident had occurred inside or outside the box, and if it was a foul in the first place.

Scott stuck with his original call and as well as giving the penalty, he showed Andersen a straight red card after ruling that he had denied a clear goalscoring opportunity and made no attempt to play the ball.

Match of the Day presenter Lineker did not agree with the match official, however.

"That’s a dive, sorry," the former England striker said on Twitter.

The penalty stood, though, and Wilson picked himself up to convert from the spot - levelling the scores at 1-1 with 63 minutes on the clock.

Lineker had earlier mocked Ritchie's own goal, branding it one of the "most comical" he had ever seen.

Ademola Lookman's corner was headed down by Tosin Adarabioyo but the ball was going wide until Ritchie's inadvertent intervention.

The Scotland international was unable to get out of the way and the ball struck him in the face and ricocheted into the net.

Lineker also claimed that even Newcastle legend Alan Shearer could not help but see the funny side.
