Gary Jennings had 2nd-highest passer rating on targets in draft class

While second-round pick DK Metcalf gets most of the attention (and for good reason), the Seattle Seahawks also selected two other receivers in the 2019 NFL draft – Gary Jennings in the fourth round and John Ursua in the seventh.

Jennings looks like a prototypical slot receiver capable of replacing two-time Pro Bowler Doug Baldwin, who is planning to retire after undergoing multiple surgeries stemming from an injury-plagued 2018 season.

Replacing Baldwin’s sure hands, clean route-running and tendency to come up with the big play is no easy task, but Jennings did show a lot of those traits while at West Virginia.

In fact, Jennings earned a 144.7 passer rating on targets in 2018, which ranked second among drafted players according to Pro Football Focus.

Jennings is currently battling a hamstring injury, which kept him out of rookie minicamp.

Training camp should afford him the opportunity to bond with quarterback Russell Wilson and hopefully develop into a weapon out of the slot, something Seattle will need to find soon with Baldwin’s departure.
